Turkey Farm Wastewater Still an Issue

Interim progress report expected by Aug. 20.

The committee to decide the fate of the Larison’s Turkey Farm site is set to make recommendations at the next meeting of the Chester Borough Mayor and Council on Aug. 20.

Mayor Bob Davis said at the Aug. 6 council meeting that progress was being made.

“We had a meeting today, and we have a few more things to do in review,” Davis said. “We are going to set a course and bring recommendations to the council at the next meeting. It will be an interim report, not a final report.”

Davis said wastewater on the site is still an issue.

“The more we go into this topic, the more restrictive it appears, and the main problem is wastewater,” Davis said. “We had a meeting with the DEP, and they pointed out some major topics and how we can proceed and what restrictions there are on the property.”

Progress on the turkey farm property hit a snag at the July 2 meeting when Davis said there was a wastewater problem at the site.

“The committee had a meeting, and the main focus has turned to what’s
possible based on wastewater,” Davis said on July 2. “That was an
issue from the very beginning and right now it continues as the
issue.”

Besides conversations with pharmacy and bank representatives, the committee has spoken to someone interested in putting a restaurant/banquet facility on the site.

The subcommittee, which Davis appointed in April, consists of Davis, borough attorney Brian Mason, Council President Tim Iversen, Councilman Matt Finney, and planners Frank and David Banisch.
