Mendham Mulls Feasibility Study Options

Township Committee expected to give feedback on RFP by the middle of July.

The Mendham Township Committee is reviewing the request for proposal for the feasibility study to break apart the West Morris Regional school district passed by Mendham Borough and is expected to have feedback by the middle of July, according to Mayor Rick Merkt.

At their first meeting in June, Mendham Borough Mayor Neil Henry said he wanted to see his council continue to take a leadership position on exploring the feasibility of breaking apart the West Morris Regional School District. At their second meeting, his council unanimously approved the RFP and have shared it with the other communities that comprise the high school district.

Merkt said at the last Mendham Township Committee meeting he wanted to get more feedback from the interested parties.

"The towns have to be on the same page as to what is going to be studied," Merkt said.

Merkt said he wants the Committee to read the RFP and see if they have problems with it and then discuss it at their next meeting, scheduled for July 8.

"The borough requested input by the middle of July," Merkt said.
Merkt also said he wants clarification on what other towns are doing.
"We also need to have more involvement from the schools," Merkt said.
For his part, Henry said he wanted to put the issue to rest sooner rather than later.

"This has been going actively for two years if not longer," Henry said. "We feel it is time to move forward with this so we're not sitting in council chambers in January deciding on whether or not it needs to be set aside in the budget for next year."
