Fatal Head-On Crash Closed Route 206 for Hours Friday

Mercer County woman killed in accident near Cooper Lane in Chester Township.

A 65-year-old Mercer County woman was killed in a head-on crash that closed Route 206 for more than three hours Friday afternoon, Chester Township Police said.

Diana Bressler, of the Yardsville section of Hamilton Township, died from her injuries at Morristown Medical Center, Chester Township Police Chief Wayne Martini said.

According to Martini, Officer Stephen Notte was dispatched to a two-car accident on Route 206 near Cooper Lane where a 2007 Silver Mazda MX5 driven by Bressler crossed the double yellow line while traveling northbound and struck a southbound 2013 Chevy Suburban driven by 39-year-old Danielle Holmes, of Pottersville.

Both drivers were transported to Morristown Medical Center by the Chester First Aid Squad for treatment and Bressler later succumbed to her injuries, Martini said. 

Chester Volunteer Fire and Peapack Gladstone Fire companies assisted at the scene.

Route 206 was re-opened approximately three and a half hours after the crash although notification of next of kin delayed the release of information, Martini said. 

Martini said the cause of the crash is still under investigation and anyone who may have witnessed the accident should call Lt. Tom Williver or Cpl. Christopher Cavanaugh at 908-879-5514.
