51 Bags of Heroin Seized in Mendham Twp. Bust

8 arrested on drug possession charges in 24 hours, police say.

Eight people were arrested on heroin possession charges in Mendham Township Monday after Ptl. Matthew Ambrosi stopped a car four of them were in on Mount Pleasant Road.

A total of 51 bags of heroin were found in the car, according to police.

Michael Walker, 18; Richard Barnish, 21; Nicholas Tims, 18; and a juvenile, all from Boonton, were charged with heroin possession, possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Detective Dan Taquinto of the Mendham Township Police Department.

The other four individuals charged were not named as an investigation is ongoing, Taquinto said, although all eight were arrested within a 24-hour period.

The four who have been named and charged were stopped in their car after the driver allegedly failed to maintain a lane of travel, Taquinto said. As police investigated, they found the 51 bags of heroin.

Ambrosi was assisted locally by Chief Steve Crawford, Detective Dan Taquinto, Ptl. Stone and Ptl. Rawa. In addition to local police, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit and Sheriff Ed Rochford assisted at the scene.
