Trick-Or-Treaters Get Halloween Tips from Mendham Twp. Police

Residents reminded to be courteous to neighbors on Oct. 31.

While Mendham Township does not have a curfew on the books in the form of an ordinance, the police department is reminding residents of a few courtesies on Halloween.

Police are asking residents to conclude trick-or-treating by 8:30 p.m., and typical start time is after 4 p.m.

“If you do not wish to have trick-or-treaters, please turn off all porch lights and post a sign on the door,” Sgt. Ross Johnson said.

Johnson also said trick-or-treaters are asked not to approach houses that do not have porch lights on or obvious signs that they are handing out candy, and if you’re going to be out at night to carry a flashlight so motorists are able to see children and parents more easily.

“Please examine all candy thoroughly before eating it and report any suspicious activity to police,” Johnson said.

Residents traveling to Drakewick on Halloween night should be aware of all no parking signs posted, Johnson said, as police will be ticketing. Parents are asked to pick up their trick-or-treaters in that area by 8:45 p.m.

Johnson said there will be additional officers on that night patrolling the township, including plain-clothes officers in high volume trick-or-treating areas.
