Second Scoop: Iconic Ice Cream Shop Announces Reopening Date

Taylor's Ice Cream Parlor will make a pre-Thanksgiving grand reopening in downtown Chester.

Saturday, Nov. 23 may be just a late November day for most people, but it's the start of a new beginning for Taylor's Ice Cream Parlor on Main Street in Chester.

Store owner Ron Klein announced Thursday he will reopen the iconic shop that day at 1 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The shop has been closed since March 8, when a fire ripped through the apartment directly above the store, causing immense damage to the building and ice cream retailer.

"It's been frustrating," Klein said about the length of time it has taken to get the store back up and running.

But the frustration is about to come to an end, as the store begins to fill up with ice cream and equipment begins humming.

Klein said 10-percent of the opening weekend's net proceeds will go to the Chester Volunteer Fire Department, with another 10-percent going to the Chester Food Pantry. There will be free hot cider on hand and, of course, all the ice cream Taylor's has become known for.

"We'll even have our pumpkin ice cream ready, too," Margaret Klein, the owner's wife said.
