Find Waldo in Mendham, Support Local Business

Elusive book character creates summertime fun to support the Shop Local Movement.

Like one of America's most wanted, everyone knows the face. Beady eyes, black rimmed specs and the striped shirt. And like famous fictional fugitive Dr. Richard Kimble, he is always the subject of an intense manhunt.

And now, the search for the infamous Waldo has come home to Mendham for the month of July.

The famous children’s book character is visiting 19 different local locations (18 businesses and the Mendham Borough Library) throughout the community this month and is leaving behind a six-inch cutout of himself.

Those eagle-eyed residents who spot it in 14 or more spots can win prizes, including stickers, book coupons and more.

Finding Waldo is a summer vacation activity for parents and children that costs nothing and doesn't even require anyone to leave town.

Anyone who wishes to participate can pick up a “Find Waldo Local in Mendham!” passport with the names of all the participating sites at Mendham Books, and then get their passport initialed for each Waldo they spot. Waldo will be hiding at the following nineteen different locations:

Collecting initials at 14 or more businesses will entitle diligent seekers to entry in a grand prize drawing on July 31, with the top prize being a 6-volume deluxe set of Waldo books.  There will also be a party open to all on Wednesday, July 3  from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Where’s Waldo is the creation of Martin Handford, whose entertaining drawings of crowd scenes swept the world in 1987. Since then, the Where’s Waldo books have held a cherished spot on bookstore shelves the world over. There are now over 58 million Waldo books in print worldwide and they’ve been translated into eighteen languages. An entire generation has grown up searching for Waldo and his cast of wandering companions.
