I'm a writer, a mother, a wife, a Christian, a singer, a homemaker, a taxpayer, a journalist, a volunteer, a friend, and a daughter. I love to take photos, hear good stories, and be inspired by the many great people in our community. In December 2010, I launched Franklin Lakes Patch, as part of aol's hyper local news initiative. After nine months at the helm, I chose to leave full-time Patch work to concentrate on raising my family and freelance writing. I grew up in Paramus and live in Midland Park. My husband, Bill Abma is a Social Studies teacher. He grew up in Wyckoff and used to work on Abma's Farm in the greenhouses with his father, Willy. (The farm is now run by Bill's Uncle Jim and cousin Jimmy, his wife Pam, and their children.) Our son Danny loves the farm. I am also a singer-songwriter and love to sing God's praises at Powerhouse and other local churches. (If you'd like to follow my music and other writings, fan me on Facebook or follow me on Twitter.)  Twitter: RebKA14 My Beliefs At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license to inject our beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that our beliefs are on the record will cause us to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know. Politics  How would you describe your political beliefs? Are you registered with a certain party? I am not affiliated or registered with any political party. I'm conservative on some issues and liberal on others. I am your classic swing voter. However, I will only vote if I have taken the time to research the issues and candidates. I would never vote just to "exercise my right." If I don't do my homework or I don't have an opinion, I don't cast a ballot. Religion How religious would you consider yourself? (casual, observant, devout, non religious) I believe life comes with an instruction manual: The Bible, which I believe is the true word of the living God. I am not perfect or pious, but I do try to live by the great commandment: To love the Lord with all my heart, soul and mind, and to love my neighbors as myself.
