6 Miles of Rt. 206 Fixes to Last Half a Year

$5 million project spans Chester to Somerville.

Have you seen the construction signs adorning different sections of Rt. 206 this week? Well, get used to them, as a $5 million repair project is under way, and expected to last until this fall, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation. The DOT’s maintenance contractor, Intercounty Paving, has begun work in Chester and will be making repairs as far south as the Somerville Circle before the project is complete. Milling and repaving deteriorated sections of asphalt and concrete roadway will be conducted in the following areas, the DOT announced: “The contract will improve motorist safety and extend the pavement lifespan along the full width of the roadway at each location,” the DOT said. “All utility hardware (manholes) will …

Weather of other factors? There have been construction vehicles sitting there (on 206 in Byram), with partial construction done for over two years now! I commute through there every day and rarely is any work being done. Someone should put question marks on all the "Road Work" signs.   more ›

Man Airlifted From Head-On Crash on Rt. 206

Accident shuts down highway for over two hours Tuesday.

A head-on collision closed Route 206 between Cooper Lane and Old Chester Gladstone Road for nearly two hours on Tuesday afternoon, with one motorist needing to be cut out from his vehicle. A commercial van owned by Cushman & Wakefield was traveling northbound when it crossed over the double yellow lines and crashed into a 2000 Black Lincoln Navigator operated by a 39-year-old Eslinde Vertil of Hackettstown, according Chester Township Police Lt. Tom Williver. According to police, Jason Mooney, age 39, of Flanders needed to be extricated from his vehicle after the crash by members of the Chester Volunteer and Peapack-Gladstone Fire Departments.  Williver said Mooney was airlifted to Morristown Medical Center by North Star Medevac to be …

Woman Airlifted After Head-On Crash on Route 206

All lanes were closed in Chester Township for nearly three hours Thursday.

A tractor-trailer and another vehicle collided on Route 206 in Chester Township Thursday afternoon, closing the roadway for nearly three hours. Diane Provencher, 47, of Columbia (Warren County), was heading southbound on the roadway when she crossed over the center line, striking a tractor-trailer, Chester Township Police Chief Wayne Martini said. Piotr Sobilo, 39, of New York, N.Y., was driving the 18-wheeler, which jack-knifed and ended up in the woods alongside Route 206. Provencher was extricated from the vehicle and flown to Morristown Medical Center, Martini said. Sobilo was not injured in the crash, Martini said. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, Martini said. It was not immediately known the severity of …
