13-year-old Mt. Olive resident falsely claimed a stranger in a van lied to him, tried getting him into car, police report.
A 13-year-old Mt. Olive boy is being charged with providing false information to a law enforcement officer after claiming a stranger tried to abduct him last week, Mt. Olive police said. The Mt. Olive Police charged the juvenile after an investigation that included assistance from the New Jersey State Police and the Morris County Prosecutor's Office, Officer Michael Russell said. The investigation is ongoing. The teenager's claim sparked a manhunt, pulling in various agencies and setting the surrounding communities on edge until the story was revealed to be false. As of 3:40 p.m. Monday afternoon, numerous brush fires throughout the industrial complex of the International Trade Center in Mt. Olive had been knocked down, according to Mt. Olive Mayor Rob Greenbaum's Facebook page. "The brush fire in the trade zone is now completely under control," Greenbaum said on his Facebook page. "Those who may have gotten calls from Bright Horizons Day Care need not hurry to get your kids," the status update said. "All are safe and not in harms way. Family of Cristiano Bonner and Hesham Moustafa trying to raise money for medical, burial and counseling expenses.
The fire that destroyed a Flanders home Monday and claimed the lives of 52-year-old Hesham Moustafa and his 7-year-old stepson Cristiano Bonner is only the beginning of the trial for the family as they are struggling to find funds for burial expenses for the victims and recovery for the survivors, said Amy Bonner Langdo. Langdo is a Hopatcong resident and Cristiano's aunt and has started a Give Forward donation page in hopes of raising enough money to cover the medical, burial and counseling expenses. "My niece Bianca is in the hospital with burns and damage to her lungs," Langdo said. According to Langdo, her niece was brought out of the burning home and wasn't breathing, but that first responders were able to revive her at the scene. …

Budd Lake resident Kim Maleyonok didn't know how bad the situation was on Monday night, but didn't sit idly by once she heard there were two teenagers missing in the partially frozen waters of Budd Lake. "My husband was the one who brought it to my attention. He was like, 'there is a helicopter out there searching,'" Maleyonok said. By Tuesday morning, Maleyonok and Katherine Sutton were by the shore of Budd Lake and at the side of Clyde Schimanski Jr. whose son Clyde Schimanski III was one of the teens being searched for. Body of one teenage boy who went missing in icy water was found Tuesday afternoon, search for the second was suspended Tuesday night, prosecutor says.

A 20-year-old Budd Lake man was charged with sexual assault for allegedly having a relationship with a minor, Mt. Olive Police Cpl. Eric Anthony said. Elvis Hozdic was charged with second-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual contact and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child. According to the report filed by Det. Luis Sanchez, a Mt. Olive resident filed a report on Oct. 12 claiming his 15-year-old daughter was involved in a sexual relationship with Hodzic. According to Anthony, the investigation revealed the minor was 14 years old when she engaged in sexual relations, including intercourse, with Hodzic. From Budd Lake to Belvidere folks are holding fundraisers for the family of Chris Connors, killed in a car accident last week.
Friends who knew him growing up in Budd Lake call him a "Laker for Life." And those in his new community in Belvidere call him one of their own. Now both communities are showing an outpouring of love and support for Chris Connors since his death in a car accident on route 46 last week. On Friday, Oct. 19 a baked goods sale is being held at Belvidere High School as part of the homecoming festivites. Two teen males accused of raping a female peer in a Flanders home are being released from the Morris County Juvenile Detention Center and put on house arrest, according to a report on nj.com. Judge Michael Paul Wright ruled Tuesday the boys will not be allowed to leave their homes, and must be supervised by at least one parent 24 hours a day, the report stated. The teens are also prohibited from discussing the case with anyone, barring them from the Internet. For the full report on the ruling, go here. More than $100,000 in jewelry was stolen from Kay Jewelers in Flanders on Sunday after entry was gained through the roof while the store was closed, according to Mount Olive Township police. Police received a “frantic” phone call Sunday morning at about 11:15 a.m. from a Kay Jewelers employee who said the store at the ITC Crossing on International Drive had been burglarized, Cpl. Eric Anthony said. The employee told police there was no electricity in the store, and the alarm system was no longer working, Anthony said. When police responded it was determined the safe was broken into and items were stolen, Anthony said. Police also determined entry was gained through the roof of the mall complex sometime between 4 and 11 a.m., Anthony said. …
