Christie 'Can't Understand' Two Mendhams

Governor says shared service should start in his hometown.

As part of his town hall meeting in Montville on Wednesday, Governor Chris Christie spoke about the need for increasing shared services and the money if would save the taxpayers. Christie said to those assembled he needed to look no further for an example than his hometown of Mendham. "Where I live, I live in Mendham Township, inside Mendham Township is Mendham Borough for reasons that I can never understand," Christie said. "I say I live in Mendham, 'Township or Borough?' Whats it matter? There is 8,000 people between the two towns." Christie has been a longtime resident of Mendham Township and last March hosted a breakfast fundraiser for the township library.  "In my town they have two old, decaying libraries," Christie said. Gov. Christie is absolutely right. However, the powers that be in each of the little towns will never give up their control. They are choking their constituents with ever higher tax burdens. Gov Christie will need to enact legislation, on a state level, to force consolidation of these small redundant towns. Until that happens, NJ will continue to be the number one state people flee from. The last…   more ›

Should Local Schools Have Armed Guards?

One district in New Jersey already voted to hire guards for schools.

Less than a week after a gunman killed 20 children and six adults in a Newtown, Connecticut elementary school, a New Jersey school district took action, with its board of education approving to hire armed security guards at each of its buildings. The Marlboro Board of Education approved the action on Dec. 20, as reported in Marlboro-Colts Neck Patch, and will have armed security guards in each of its nine school buildings at the start of the new year.  Another debate about gun control regulations and laws was sparked after the massacre in Newtown, with many calling for stricter legislations and enforcement. On the other side, the National Rifle Association said it recommended schools hire armed guards, as the board approved in Marlboro. …

There's also a presumption that someone intent on murder is coming through the front door so that an armed guard gets the first shot. Wouldn't a metal detector be more prudent for the student, teacher or other inside the building who loses control? Also, this doesn't solve the problem. Don't we then …   more ›
