Chester Rec, DARE Bring Music With a Message

Chester Recreation in partnership with Chester Township DARE Program sponsored an interactive concert at Bragg Elementary School.

In what is hoped to be the beginning of a strong partnership between Chester Recreation and the Chester Township Dare Program, an interactive concert was held at the Bragg Elementary School on Friday that featured music with a message. Performing to the third and fifth grade classes were Presley and Melody in an assembly designed to feature live performances of the songs students love and attendees were encouraged to participate with interactive music props and pom poms. A slide show featuring lyrics and positive messaging and the event was titled "Making Good Choices" as it focused on the impact of the positive decisions we make every day to have a good life. New Lieutenant, Corporal in Chester Township

Anthony DaCunza and Edward Noonan were elevated at Tuesday evening's council meeting.

Police officers Anthony DaCunza and Edward Noonan were promoted to the ranks of Corporal and Lieutenant, respectively, at Tuesday evening's Chester Township Council meeting. "A lot goes into the decision to promote somebody," Chief Wayne Martini said. "In particular, these officers have shown that they excel in many different areas. They are both in supervisory roles; Ed Noonan will be serving as a lieutenant, he will be overseeing the internal affairs unit as well as the detective buereau, and Anthony DaCunza will be serving and continue to serve in the detective bureau and the corporal overseeing the road when necessary and filling in." New Sergeant Swearing In Highlights Week Ahead

Corporal Ron Totams to be elevated in rank at Chester Township Council meeting Tuesday.

Hopefully Chester Township police Corporal Ron Totams didn't invest a lot of money in office stationary since his promotion from patrolman in April, as this Tuesday he is going to be sworn in as sergeant for the Chester Township Police Department. Totams became a member of the Chester Township Police in July of 2000 and according to his supervisors, has been an exemplary officer. Totams will be sworn in by Lieutenant Tom Williver, as Chief Wayne Martini will be out of town attending a conference. This promotion is the latest change for the Chester PD who has seen a flurry of retirements, a pair of promotions and the hiring of not one but two new patrol officers in recent months. Chester Sgt. Takes 2nd in Mendham Triathlon

The Co-Ed Revolutionary Triathlon held Aug. 12 in Mendham Township brought out local, state and regional competitors to test their limits in a grueling course. One of those participants was Sergeant Ed Noonan of the Chester Township Police Department there representing the Police Unity Tour. “As police officers I believe we have a responsibility to be role models for our community,” Noonan said. “Children look up to police officers, and I think we need to show them the importance of being physically fit.” The USAT sanctioned race is run by Green Brook Racing LLC and included over 275 total men and female competitors in the race from all over New Jersey. Cops: Sleeping Driver Crashes Into Bus Full of Kids

Accident closes Mendham Road West in front Sammy's Cider Mill during rush hour.

A driver asleep at the wheel crossed lanes and slammed into a school bus that was traveling to West Morris Mendham High School at just after 7 a.m. this morning, Mendham Township Police said. According to police, a 2006 Hyundai driven by a 22-year-old Chester woman crashed into the full size school bus in front of Sammy's Cider Mill on Mendham Road West.  An investigation by Patrolman Robet Wysokowski revealed the female driver fell asleep and crossed over the center line of the roadway striking the school bus as it traveled east, police said. The bus was transporting approximately twenty high school students to West Morris Mendham High School when the accident occured, police said. Photos: Chester Cops Embark on Police Unity Tour

Members of the Chester Township Police force rode out of town as part of the annual Police Unity Tour honoring police officers who have died in the line of duty.

Chester Township Police Chief Wayne Martini was on hand during a rainy Wednesday morning to see off Lieutenant Tom Schmieder and Sergeant Ed Noonan as they pedaled out of the Ramada on Route 10 in East Hanover to join the national Police Unity bike tour, a weeklong cycling event that honors police officers killed throughout the country. The primary purpose of the Police Unity Tour is to raise awareness of Law Enforcement Officers who have died in the line of duty. The secondary purpose is to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial and Museum. The tour will last until next Tuesday, when thousands of officers from across the country will roll to a stop at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.…

Cops: Speeding Driver Was Drunk

The following information was provided by the Chester Township Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A South Plainfield man was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence on Feb. 28 after being pulled over for speeding, Chester Township Police said. According to police, 25-year-old Kevin Hohner was pulled over on Route 206. Cpl. Ryan McNamee made the arrest, and Hohner was charged with driving under the influence, speeding and reckless driving and was released pending a court appearance in Chester Township Municipal Court, police said. Chester Twp. Cops: Pair Had Pot, Paraphernalia

Two Randolph residents were arrested in Chester Township on charges of having less than 50 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia following a motor vehicle stop Feb. 4. Ryan Steckel arrested 20-year-old Michael Federico and 23-year-old Mark Brajer after the stop, police said. Chester Twp. Cops: Driver Was Wanted on Warrants

A driver stopped in Chester Township had drug paraphernalia and was wanted on outstanding warrants, police said. Christopher Cavanagh arrested 26-year old Jonathan Klein on Feb. 10 after a motor vehicle stop for erratic driving on Pottersville Road.
