Mendham Man Passes at 59

Peter Breves' family asks that donations be given to Mendham Township Library in lieu of flowers.

Peter Laurence Breves passed away peacefully at his home in Mendham on Dec. 21, 2012. He was 59. Peter was born on April 27, 1953 in Quincy, MA. Breves earned a B.A. in English from Syracuse University in 1975 and moved to Ridgefield, CT in 1986 with his wife and two children. Living in Mendham since 2007, Breves was a semi-retired insurance executive. Aside from taking great interest in the activities of his children, Breves enjoyed many hobbies including model railroading, baseball, and Civil War and Hudson River School art history. A fluent speaker of German, Peter maintained a strong connection with his extended family in Germany since childhood. Chester Resident, Judge's Wife Dies

Audrey Hyde Thompson died Nov. 30 at 88.

Audrey Hyde Thompson of Chester, NJ and Cotuit, MA, passed away on Nov. 30 at the age of 88. One of the seven children of Elmer Hyde and Jessie Barber Hyde, Thompson was raised in Belleville and Sea Girt, and graduated Belleville High School and Parsons School of Design in New York. She worked in the fashion industry, and later at her family's surety bond company. Thompson was the lovingwife of the late Hon. Paul B. Thompson, a judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey and the president of the Mountainside Hospital Volunteer Association. She also enjoyed travel and interior design. Thompson is survived by her son Paul B. Thompson, beloved granddaughter Meredith Thompson, sisters Margo Plenge and Beth Whittemore, and many nieces and nephews…

Longtime Mendham Resident Dies at Home

Brad Gano was a graduate of both Yale and Harvard and served on the Board of Trustees at Boys Latin School, as well as the Willow School in Peapack, NJ.

William Brad Gano passed away peacefully on Nov. 17 at home in Mendham with his family at his side. He was 56 years old. Gano was born in Bethlehem, PA, and was raised in Baltimore, MD. He and his wife Peggy moved to Mendham 21 years ago. Gano and the family also lived in Hilton Head Island, SC. Gano attended the Boys Latin School in Baltimore, where he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame and recently received the award for Distinguished Alumnus. Gano graduated from Yale University in 1978 and was Captain of the Yale Lacrosse Team. He received his MBA from the Harvard Business School in 1986. Mendham Township Educator Passes

Margaret 'DiDi' Sharkey died at home on Tuesday.

Margaret "Didi" Sharkey, passed away peacefully at home in Mendham on Nov. 20, 2012. She was 59. Born in Ardmore, PA to Joseph and Marion Muldoon, Didi lived in Downingtown, PA before moving to Mendham 22 years ago. DiDi received her BS from Mount St. Mary's College in 1977. Didi was an educator at the Mendham Township Elementary School for the last 15 years. Didi was an avid tennis player and was active in Mendham with the National Junior Tennis League. She also co-founded a summer youth tennis program and taught tennis in Mendham for many years. Her family will remember her as a loving wife and mother who was dedicated to her family and many friends. Anyone who met her loved her immediately. Survivors include her husband David Sharkey, …

Memorial Sunday For Couple Killed in Storm

Service will be held at Blue Crest Riding Center in Long Valley.

A memorial service for Richard and Elizabeth Everett, the couple killed by a falling tree during Tropical Storm Sandy will be held at Blue Crest Riding Center in Long Valley, according to the obituary from the Tuttle Funeral home. The Everetts were residents of Randolph for 12 years and previously lives in West Chester, Pa. Richard was a chemist at Opthotech in Princeton and Elizabeth was a bio tech consultant for Novartis in East Hanover. They were both very active throughout the community. Mt. Olive Native Remembered as Family Man and Hero

Services for Chris Connors, the Belvidere man killed in a car accident on Thursday, to be at the Cochran Funeral home Monday.

Chris Connors was the "tough guy." The guy with the jean jacket with the Iron Maiden and Metallica patches sewn on. Hanging out with his best friend Brian Hager, Connors exuded the self confidence of a guy who didn't care what anybody thought. But beneath that tough exterior was the proverbial heart of gold. And on Thursday, a car accident in the town he was raised in claimed his life. "I've known him since the fourth grade," sister-in-law Melissa Altadonna Kramer said. "He was a tough, wild, free-spirited guy with a true genuine heart who would never intentionally hurt anyone." Master Carpenter Passes Away in Chester Home

Wilson Bell died Monday at age 85.

Wilson E. Bell died peacefully at home in Chester on Monday Oct. 8 at age 85. Born in Hillside Bell lived in Elizabeth for many years before moving to Chester in 1968. Bell was a master carpenter and owner of Wilson E. Bell Carpentry in Chester before he retired in 1991. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy B. Bell in 1989. Survivors include his wife, Janet Bongiorno Bell, their daughter, Emily Bell, Wilson and Dorothy’s son, Brian, and his wife Eugenia Bell of Wantage and their son, Daniel Bell. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home, 176 Main Street in Peapack. Former Chester Board of Education Member Dies

Henry Peter Ragiel passes at 77.

Henry Peter Ragiel died peacefully on Tuesday at the Morristown Medical Center. He was 77. Born in Mount Carmel, PA Ragiel was raised in Newark and lived in Chester for 40 years before moving to Bedminster 10 years ago. He graduated from East Side High School and received his MAE in Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania in 1959. Ragiel was active in the University of Pennsylvania Alumni Assoc. He also served on the Board of Education in Chester, NJ and was a member of the Rotary International in Chester. Henry was the President of HPR Associates in Chester. He retired in 1999. Chester Township Man Dies at Home After Illness

Berthold Herd was 87.

Berthold Erich Herd died on Saturday Sept. 22 at his home after a battle with cancer. He was 87 years old. Born in Germany on January 24, 1925, he was a resident of Chester Township for many years and was employed by Komline Sanderson Corporation in Peapack NJ as a career welder with his good friend Sal Grievo. Herd was predeceased by his wife, Elfriede I. (Rudt) Herd in 2002, as well as three siblings. He is survived by by his sister Anneliese Just of Germany, as well as many nieces and nephews in Germany. He is also survived by his companion Anita Albers, Director of the Albrook School in Basking Ridge. Herd was interred at Hilltop Cemetery in Mendham.

Member of St. Joseph's Church in Mendham Dies

Michael J. Shimko died suddenly at the age of 52.

Michael J. Shimko died suddenly on Sept. 1 at his home. He was 52. Born on January 21, 1960 to the late Michael Anthony and Gerri Marie (Long) Shimko in Wilkes Barre, PA, Shimko was a resident of Randolph for many years. Shimko was a postal clerk for the Martinsville Post Office for over 18 years as well as a 3rd degree Knight with the Commodore John Barry Council #2544 Knights of Columbus of Dunellen, and a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Mendham. Shimko enjoyed shuffleboard, cooking, football, watching old movies, and was an avid reader. Shimko is survived by his wife of 17 years, Mary Marelli Shimko, a sister Beth Sandberg, a step-brother Brian Reskow, and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements are by the Bailey Funeral …
