Title Game Countdown, Holiday Cookie Exchange Ahead This Week

Patch is working on a story about the dangers of Rt. 206 as well.

It’s December! Can you believe it? Less than a month until 2014. Besides getting your holiday shopping in order and starting to create New Year’s resolutions, there’s plenty to take note of this week. Let’s have a look.

This event won’t take place until the final hours of this week, but it’s likely the most anticipated sports even these towns have seen in a while. The Mendham Minutemen football team will march to Rutgers University to battle Philipsburg in the NJSIAA North 2, Group IV sectional title game. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8.

It’s the team’s first appearance in the championship round since 2004. Check back throughout the week for stories in our “Road to Glory” series.

What does the holiday season mean? Baked goods, of course!

On Wednesday, Dec. 4, you can swing by the Mendham Township Library at 1 p.m. for the annual Holiday Cookie Exchange. Make three dozen of your own cookies and 10 copies of the recipe to bring with you, as well as a clean container. You’ll be able to swap with others and learn about some tasty treats.

The library is asking for attendees to register by calling 973-543-4018 or by email at programs@mendhamtwplib.org.

Finally, we’re working on a story this week about the dangers of Rt. 206 in Chester Township, where two people were killed in separate accidents in the past two months.

We’ll be speaking with Department of Transportation officials as well as local police and members of the governing body about what can be done to make the road safer. Stay tuned for more.

Have a great week, Mendham and Chester!
