Alstede Farms Helps Fight Lou Gehrig's Disease

$2,000 donation made to ALS Association.

Alstede Farms in Chester recently presented the ALS Association with a donation of $2,000 to help the nonprofit fight what's commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

“We are proud to be able to contribute to the efforts of the Association in trying to end this terrible disease and to help those who are suffering from its effects,” said Kurt Alstede, owner of Alstede Farms.

ALS is a progressive, neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to its victim’s death.

Alstede Farms had collected a portion of each admission to its corn maze each time one of its visitors wore a Yankees hat, shirt or jacket during Lou Gehrig weekend in September.

“Upon his departure from baseball, Lou Gehrig said with grace and dignity ‘I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth.’ We consider ourselves lucky to be able to give back through the efforts our farm family and staff members," Alstede said.
