Minutemen Skate Through Central for Shutout Victory

Mendham solidifies spot in state's rankings, set to face off against 2013 title game opponent.

If anyone thought the Minutemen ice hockey team was intimidated by its recent jump into the Star-Ledger top-20 squads in the state, they should think again.

The defending Halvorsen Cup champions took to Mennen Arena Thursday night with a full throng of fans clad in white, dismantling sister-school West Morris Central, 7-0.

Freshman goalie Dylan Euvino posted 18 saves for the shutout win, according to nj.com, which improved Mendham's record to 10-2-2. Matt Farina and Paul Minchura each netted two goals, while John Gionco, Jess Cohen, and Grant Jozefek also scored goals of their own.

Their work isn't done, of course, as the Minutemen now prepare for the No. 19 ranked Roxbury Gaels; the same team that lost to the Minutemen in the 2013 Halvorsen Cup title game.

That contest is set for Saturday, Jan. 18 at 6:15 p.m. at Mennen Arena.
