Mendham's Title Run Ends in Loss to Phillipsburg

Minutemen's historic run ends unsuccessfully in North 2, Group 4 title game Sunday.

Mendham High School's Minutemen football team traveled to Rutgers University Sunday afternoon with the hopes of bringing home the school's first sectional championship in decades.

Unfortunately, the trip to Piscataway didn't end the way the Mendham had hoped.

Pitted against the North 2, Group 4 section's top seed in the playoffs in Phillipsburg, Mendham couldn't get anything going on offense and fell behind on the first possession of the game. The Minutemen lost 39-0.

Quarterback Jack Horan had a rough day, tossing four interceptions and the defense gave up more than hundred yards rushing to two different Phillipsburg tail backs.

Mendham ends the historic run, with its first title game appearance since 2004, with a 6-5-1 overall record.
