Mendham's Title Pursuit Continues With First-Round Tournament Win

Fresh off the Halvorsen Cup championship, Minutemen ice hockey easily defeats opponent Monday night.

Olympic hockey might be over, but the Mendham Minutemen are heating up.

On a historic night in which Grant Jozefek notched his 200th career point, the Minutemen ice hockey team made quick work of its NJSIAA tournament first-round opponent in Hopewell Valley, winning 8-1.

It was Mendham’s first game after beating Pequannock 6-4 Saturday night to capture its second consecutive Halvorsen Cup title.

Jozefek, who notched 103 points last season – which stands as a New Jersey public school record – has a shot at besting the mark in the team’s second round game against Vernon on Thursday. The captain currently has 97 points. He hit the mark in Monday night’s game with an assist to teammate Paul Michura.

The Minutemen will face off against Vernon on Thursday night at Mennen Arena at 8:15 p.m. Mendham is the No. 5 seed in the tournament with Vernon sitting in the No. 11 spot. A win would send Mendham to the Public B tournament quarterfinals.
