Mendham Slams Central for Halvorsen Cup Title Game Shot

Defending champs to battle for division title Saturday at Mennen Arena.

While battles between the sister schools are often epic, nail-biting classics, the Mendham Minutemen wanted no part of a close game against West Morris Central Thursday night, handily taking down their opponents in the Halvorsen Cup semifinal round.

The Minutemen ice hockey team jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and never looked back. They netted two more in the second and another three in third, finishing the lopsided victory 8-1 for a second consecutive appearance in the division's title game, according to nj.com.

Grant Jozefek, Paul Michura, and John Gionca all scored twice, the report said, with additional scores from Nik Hedergren and Alex Ferrer.

Mendham will now battle Pequannock Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. at Mennen Arena for the Cup. A win would be the Minutemen's second straight title and third in six years.
