Northeast Regional Race to Feature Mendham Runner

Mackenzie Barry will compete at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships on Saturday.

Just a few days after leading her squad to their second group 3 title in three years and the Meet on Champions, Mendham running star Mackenzie Barry will compete at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships Northeast Regional race on Saturday.

The contest will be held at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.

Barry returns to compete against some of the best runners in the region for a coveted spot in the national finals. Barry, a junior, placed 17 in last year’s regional race.

The 5,000-meter seeded race begins at 11:30 a.m. for the boys and at noon for the girls. The top ten boys and the top ten girls in the seeded races qualify for the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships National Finals on Saturday, Dec. 8 at Morley Field, Balboa Park in San Diego, Calif.

Thousands of the nation’s top runners are expected to compete in the 34th annual Foot Locker Cross Country Championships. The series consists of four regional 5K races across the country. The South Regional (Charlotte, N.C.) and the Midwest Regional (Kenosha, WI) will be held Nov. 24.  The West Regional (Walnut, California) will take place on Saturday, Dec. 1.

Runners eligible to compete in the Northeast Regional are all high school students in grades 9 through 12 residing in Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, D.C. and U.S. citizens in Overseas Military Installations.
