Mendham Minutemen Fundraising $15K For New Football Uniforms

Current threads are 17 years old, out of style and hurting performance, team says.

Imagine wearing the same style of clothes today that was en vogue 17 years ago.

Chances are you’d get some sideways looks for being out of touch, and certainly out of style.

That’s what the Mendham Minutemen football team feels like when it steps on the field each weekend. The team’s uniforms have the same logo and design it did 17 years ago, and while pieces have been replaced when necessary, the team is, by and large, wearing the same threads donned by players from the 1990s.

So the team has set out on a mission to replace those non-breathable uniforms and have set up a fundraising goal of $15,000. In doing so the team has created an online fundraising page hudl.com, which can be viewed and donate to by clicking here.

Leading the page is a video of Mendham football highlights from previous seasons, narrated by Coach Bill Carpluk. In the movie the coach says, “We last upgraded our uniforms 17 years ago, time to move us into the 21st century. Uniform materials and fit have significantly improved. Not only will they improve our appearance, they will help with our performance as we continue to strive to stay competitive in a top NJ football conference.ˮ

After a seven-year hiatus from the sidelines, Carpluk returned to coach the Minutemen in the 2013 campaign. In doing so he led the team to its first state title game in more than a decade.

The fundraising goal of $15,000 on the hudl.com site has a time limit of May 15, and donors can contribute as little as $10 or escalate to an unlimited amount.

If the team’s supporters perform as well this spring as the team did in the fall, those uniforms should be ready by the 2014 kickoff.
