Mendham Fencers Head To State Tournament

Boys and girls team have one loss between them.

The West Morris Mendham High School Boys' fencing team ran their record up to 12-0 with a win over Morris Hills.
The Epee team defeated Morris Hills by an 8-1 as juniors Alexander Andriatis and Santiago Gonzalez won all of their epee bouts. The Sabre team also won 6-3.
The Girls' fencing team won 16-11, boosting their season record to 11-1. Foil and Epee Squads won by a 7-2 score. Junior Sarah Zimmerman and junior, Alexis Gonsalves won all three of their foil bouts as did junior Leah Hoogerhyde for epee. Senior Angela Flanagan and junior Sarah Redick also won in epee.

State Tourney Begins
Both the Boys' and Girls' Fencing teams competed in the State tournament, down to the final 16 teams in the state. The Girls' Team competed on Feb. 5 in Basking Ridge.  

The girls' team lost to Ridge High School with a final score of 17-10.  Senior
Captain Natasha Sidhu won all three of her sabre bouts while juniors Sarah Redick (epee)  and Sarah Zimmerman (foil) won their bouts 2-1.

On Feb. 6 Mendham, Feb. 6 the Mendham Boys' team winning the first round of the State tournament beating Governor Livingston 19-8.  The Epee squad was won all of their bouts 9-0. Alexander Andriatis, Philip Szeszol, Lars Swanson, Anthony Bello, and Luis Santiago Gonzalez all factored in the win. The Foil and Epee squads both won 5-4.  Senior Captain Kyle Persau and junior Mark Zawadiwsky both won 2-1. 

Last year, the Boys' team went all the way and won the state
championships, coming in first in the state of New Jersey.
