Ladies Lead Minutemen Through Weekend of Wins

Volleyball, field hockey teams remain undefeated.

Three Mendham High School girls teams all had winning weekends to end September, two of which kept undefeated seasons rolling.

The volleyball squad, which kept its No. 17 ranking among the top-20 in the Star-Ledger state rankings, beat Roxbury in three sets to improve to 8-0 on the season. Late last week the Minutemen also received the No. 1 seed in the Morris County Tournament.

Not to be outdone, the field hockey team improved to 7-0 after a close victory over Randolph Friday, 3-1.

On the pitch, the girls soccer team may have had the most exciting weekend, as the ladies handed Morris Tech its first loss of the season, shutting out their opponent 5-0. Morris Tech was 8-0 heading into the contest and couldn’t stop Mendham’s Alex Young, who notched a hat trick in the game.

The boys teams were up and down over the weekend, as the soccer team shut out Hanover Park, 5-0 to improve to 5-3 on the season. Malcolm Montilus scored two goals for the Minutemen.

On the gridiron the football team wasn’t so fortunate, however, losing to the undefeated Parsippany Hills Vikings 28-7. Mendham hit the end zone with a Chris Jones 7-yard run. Mendham hosts Randolph at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 for its fourth game of the season.
