Girls Track and Field Makes History With Mendham's First Sectional Title

Minutemen dominate competition, will look for Group title this weekend.

They’ve worked hard all season, many of them for the past four years, to get to this point.

The Mendham Minutemen girls track and field team made history this weekend, winning its first-ever North 2, Group III sectional title in dominating fashion, outscoring the second place team – West Morris Central – 111 to 75.

Senior standout Mackenzie Barry won the 3,200-meter race by 20 seconds, while the relay teams blew by the competition.

Junior Audrey O’Neill anchored the 4x100 team to 48.96-second finish, more than two full seconds ahead of Roxbury and Colonia.

Sierra Tonneson took home first place in the 400-meter dash with a personal record of 58.49 seconds and also placed third in the 800-meter.

Senior Courtney Foshay broke a school record with a leap of 17”8.25’ feet in the long jump. Katie Wistosky grabbed first place in the shot put with a throw of 34”11’.

The team will now vie for a group title against other section-winning teams in South Plainfield this weekend.
