Generals Claim Diamond 'Turf' With Independence Day Tourney Win

Team comprised of players from Mendham, Sparta, Randolph and West Orange have won four competitions since May.

Just because they were the visiting team didn’t mean the Morris Generals couldn’t claim someone else’s turf.

The 11U baseball team, made up of players from Mendham, Randolph, West Orange and Sparta, competed in the EASTON Independence Day Turf War baseball tournament on July 5 and 6 at The Rock Sports Park in Chester, New York.

Eight teams from New York, New Jersey and Long Island participated in the tournament, with the Generals playing five games over the two days. The squad went undefeated to capture the tournament crown.

The trophy was the fourth out of six tournaments played by the Generals since May. “This was a very successful weekend for the Morris Generals,” said head coach Frank Seminara in an email to Patch. “We have assembled a very talented group of young men from throughout the area that love the game of baseball and love to compete. These young men are competing at a very high level and they have a great deal to be proud of.”

The team’s four tournament wins include the Frozen Ropes – Mariano Rivera Baseball Tournament; Bridgewater Memorial Day Baseball Tournament; Elite Championship Tournament Baseball 9th Annual On Deck Classic; and the Independence Day Turf War.
