Mendham High School Moves Up in Magazine’s National Rankings

Mendham comes in at No. 38 in New Jersey, fourth in Morris County.

After dropping seven spots from 2012 to 2013, Mendham High School has moved back up in the annual list compiled by U.S. News & World Report on top high schools in the country.

The recently-released lists showed Mendham High School went from No. 40 in New Jersey to No. 38 from 2013 to 2014. Between 2012 and 2013, the high school had dropped seven slots from No. 33 to No. 40.

Nationally, Mendham was listed as the No. 1040 high school. For the first time, the report used the International Baccalaureate (IB) program as a factor in its rankings to go along with math and language proficiency.

The IB category showed 34.1-percent of Mendham’s students passed the program, receiving certificates, which was well above the New Jersey average. The report showed 94-percent of students were proficient in math and 99-percent of students were proficient in language.

For the second consecutive year, Biotechnology High School in Freehold took the top spot on the list. Chatham High School was the highest-ranking Morris County school, grabbing the No. 9 spot. Madison High School was next for Morris at No. 26, followed by Dover High School at No. 37 and then Mendham.

Mendham High School’s sister-school, West Morris Central, did not rank in the top 44 schools listed.
