Outgoing Board Member Applauded for Service

Washington Township representative David Lobron attended final board meeting Monday night.

David Lobron is going to have to find some new entertainment every other Monday night going forward.

The West Morris Regional School Board representative for Washington Township took part in his final meeting Monday night after spending four years on the school's governing body.

"I would like to congratule Dave Lobron," said Superintendent Mackey Pendergrast. "Tonight is his last board meeting, four years on the board of education and over three decades in the school system. I want to honor that service. He always talks about the student and the student experience; it's so easy to get lost in policy and budget numbers, that's our job, but it's always important to keep that focus and their experience in high school."

The board surprised Lobron with a cake and an engraved silver plate to commemorate his time on the council.

"It's bittersweet," Lobron said. "It's been my pleasure to serve the board and serve the district."

After a reapportionment by the Morris County Executive Superintendent in December 2011, Washington Township lost one of its five seats on the board, as Chester Borough received a representative slot.

Lobron did not file to run for re-election in 2012, and Don Storms of Chester Borough received enough write-in votes in November to obtain the newly-created seat.

At the meeting, Lobron said that he wanted some "younger people with kids in school to come in." That's kind of what my goal was, someone who is more involved in the community and has kids here so that they could live the experience themselves."

Board President James Johnston said, "I also want to thank Dave for three-decades-plus-experience in our district and the last four (years). As a board member your service has been excellent, you have given the board a lot of insight into how this school had run and how to develop plans on how it should be run."

Lobron was an administrator at West Morris Central High School for more than 30 years.
