Chester Students Unveil Mosaic

Dickerson School students create tile artwork to decorate the walls of the school.

The students of Dickerson School, in Chester, continued the annual tradition of creating a permanent piece of artwork to decorate the walls of the school.

This year they tackled a new medium, as this year's project was made out of tile in a mosaic.

With the help of tile artist Bill Winner, of Buccaneer Tile, and many parent volunteers, the students learned the importance of color and shape while they worked on a broken tile mosaic that illustrates the school’s spirit and values.

During the class workshops, more than 300 kindergarten, first grade and second grade students learned how to cut tile with a tile cutter, break tile with a hammer and fit pieces together in the mosaic to complete the design.

The students also created their own small-scale paper mosaic projects as a souvenir of their experience. The project was sponsored by the Chester PTO Dickerson Cultural Arts Committee and would not have been possible without the generous donations of time and materials from Mr. Winner and the parent community.
