'We're Ready' for Snowstorm in Mendham Borough

DPW chief says storm is being blown out of proportion.

We’re ready.

That’s the confidence coming from the Mendham Borough Department of Public Works and its superintendent Ken O’Brien, who has his entire crew coming back into work and hitting the roads at 7 p.m. Thursday night.

The crews, made up of 10 employees, will be staggered and plowing and salting the roads throughout the night as the snowstorm is expected to be heavy through early afternoon Friday.

But it’s nothing O’Brien hasn’t dealt with, he said.

“I think it’s being blown out of proportion,” he said Thursday afternoon. “It’s really nothing we haven’t already dealt with here in northern New Jersey.”

While forecasts are calling for anywhere between four and 10 inches of snow before the system is out of the area, coupled with sub-zero temperatures before Saturday ends, a spike in temperatures Sunday morning has O’Brien confident the storm will be a thing of the past come Monday.

O’Brien also said the storm didn’t bring enough attention for him to collaborate with the schools in the area on recommendations for delays or closures.

O’Brien said residents can find the DPW on Twitter by following @mendhamdpw. The department’s latest tweet Thursday said, “We are pretreating our roadways. Today is a normal operations day. Plan on extended commute times for this evening.”

The department will update its account throughout the storm and alert residents to breaking news about road closures and other instances.
