'Budget Hawk' Honored for Service in Mendham Twp.

Frank Cioppettini recognized for dedication to Township Committee and the community.

Mere seconds after being sworn in as mayor of Mendham Township on Wednesday, Rick Merkt took action by honoring former committeeman and mayor Frank Cioppettini for his service to the community.

"I’ve seen Frank do these a bunch of times and this is my chance to do it for him," Merkt said.

The proclamation read by Merkt thanked Cioppettini for giving of his time and effort in "dignified and faithful service."

"He has earned the respect of his colleagues," Merkt said. "The Township expresses its appreciation and gratitude for his service."

Merkt commented that Cioppettini will not be "getting away cleanly" as he will continue to serve on the finance committee as budget season heads into high gear.

"The thing about Frank is he really is a budget hawk. He asks the really tough questions and wants to make people accountable for what they are spending and why they are spending it," Merkt said. "At the same time, if you make a case and show the need and that it is reasonable, he will support the spending."
