Exit Sandman: Mendham Administrator Leaves for Same Role in Parsippany

Mendham business administrator Ellen Sandman goes cross-county for new job.

The end of an era has come in Mendham Borough, as the much-heralded business administrator, Ellen Sandman, has left her position.

Sandman began her first day in the same role with Parsippany-Troy Hills Township Monday after spending the last six years in Mendham.

Sandman spent 22 years in Denville before that coming to Mendham.

Overall, Sandman has 40 years of experience in public administration, public safety, finance and public policy.

In Parsippany, Sandman will be tasked with overseeing township procedures and policies, grants, preparation of the municipal budget, management of public properties, negotiation of municipal contracts and efficient management of township government, Mayor James Barberio said in an announcement.

“Ellen Sandman has many great ideas and suggestions on how to accomplish the goals of my administration.  I look forward to her arrival when she can focus on Parsippany’s operations and policies and we can work together for a more cooperative and effective local government,” said Mayor Barberio in a statement.

Sandman earned $130,000 in 2013 in Mendham and was hired in Parsippany for $140,000.

Mendham Mayor Neil Henry often credited Sandman with the borough's financial success, as well as the town's recognition of being named the top place to live in the state by New Jersey Monthly Magazine.
