Drug Rehab Facility Applicant Postpones Public Hearing

Zoning meeting scheduled for Monday night won't see SBH Hidden River for Pottersville Road project.

Another month, another postponement.

The group seeking to build and operate a drug rehabilitation facility on Pottersville Road in Chester Township has requested an adjournment of the proceedings with the zoning board.

The next scheduled public hearing between SBH Hidden River, LLC – the applicant seeking to zone the Pottersville Road property for a drug treatment facility – was set for Monday, Jan. 27, but the group pulled back and requested a postponement.

A November 25 meeting was canceled last year on the day of, when SBH was going to provide an amended application to the zoning board. That meeting was scheduled to be held at Black River Middle School, as high resident turnout was expected.

An October meeting before that was also canceled.

SBH – Summit Behavioral Health – was looking to amend current ordinances that would allow them to build a 36-bed drug treatment facility on the property.

The facility would bring in those in need of rehabilitation 5-10 days after being drug free, SBH told the board and residents in September.

A group of residents have banded together against the building of the rehabilitation facility, calling themselves Concerned Citizens of Chester.

The group is arguing that building the center in a residential area is potentially dangerous.

Patch’s requests for comment from the group have not been answered.

No new meeting date between the applicant and township has been scheduled.
