Chester Resident Joins Hunt For County Clerk

Laurie Bogaard declares candidacy to succeed Joan Bramhall as Morris County Clerk.

The already heated race for Morris County Clerk got a little more crowded today as Chester resident Laurie Bogaard announced she will enter the race for Morris County Clerk in the Republican primary election which will be held on June 4.

Joan Bramhall, who holds the office currently, has decided not to run for re-election.   

Bogaard joins U.S. Air Force Reserves Master Sgt. and former Parsippany Township Council member James Vigilante, Freeholder Ann Grossi, who's also from Parsippany, Zbigniew Nowacki, a Denville resident who is an accountant in the county treasurer’s office and Jefferson Councilman Michael Sanchelli, all of whom have been campaigning for the past several weeks.

Bogaard has practiced law for more than 25 years in the fields of real estate, land use, trusts and estates, and health care litigation and currently serves as the president of The Morris County Women Republicans.

“I have the legal and business skills, fiscal discipline and leadership qualities to efficiently operate the Morris County Clerk’s Office," Bogaard said. "I certainly have the right experience to continue the success of Joan Bramhall in the position of Morris County Clerk .”

Bogaard currently works with various real estate companies to lecture on current issues and legal developments, and also serves as a mentor to young real estate professionals and Drew University students.

Bogaard lives in Chester with her husband Peter and their two children.  She is a graduate of Drew University and The Dickinson School of Law.
As a member of the Chester community, Bogaard has volunteered and served on various municipal boards such as the Environmental Commission, Board of Health, Planning Board, and Chester Area Pool Committee.

According to Bogaard, her history has allowed her familiarity with the clerk position. 

“I am extremely familiar with the clerk’s duties as I frequently have interacted with the clerk's office and many of its staff as required in my practice in residential real estate,” Bogaard said. 

Growing up, Bogaard was in a family of five children; her father is a retired Newark Fire Captain and Plumber. 

According to NJ.com, Bogaard's husband Peter was nominated for a Superior Court Judgeship by Governor Chris Christie last July.
