Six-Car Accident Snarls Traffic at Hilltop School

One minor injury in the morning fender bender, Mendham Borough Police said.

A multi-vehicle pileup in front of the Hilltop School in Mendham bogged down traffic for the better part of an hour Tuesday morning, Mendham Borough Police said.

According to Police Chief Pat Libertino six cars were involved in the accident and one person was injured.

"We had one female with a minor injury," Libertino said.

Department of Public Works Superintendent Ken O'Brien was on the scene, blocking off the road while police secured the scene.

Police said the accident happened shortly after school began, at around 8:30 am.

According to officials, one driver hit a car in the opposite lane before swerving back, strafed two cars while traveling between them and hitting two more before stopping. All of the vehicles struck were stopped in traffic, police said.

According to police, the road was reopened to all traffic by 10:20 a.m.

The accident is still under investigation.
