New Top Cop Named in Chester Borough

'Officer-in-charge' becomes new chief after three-month long search.

Three months after the search for a new top cop began, the Chester Borough Mayor and Council has chosen a full time chief to fill the vacancy.

Sgt. David Jara was selected by the governing body Tuesday night after serving as the "officer-in-charge" since former Chief Andre Kedrowitsch retired June 30.

The selection process never went outside the department's personnel, Mayor Bob Davis said, as Jara and Sgt. Tim Carey were the only officers considered.

Jara is currently the most senior officer on the force.

Interviews of both candidates, along with physical and psychological reviews took place throughout the summer. The process was complete in August.

A new officer is currently in training to fill the headcount left by Kedrowitsch's retirement.
