That falls under probably not.

But while police work to find those responsible, they are reminding residents that they need to take precautions to protect their belongings.

"Set your alarm and lock your doors," said Mendham Borough Police Chief Pat Libertino.

According to Libertino, the burglaries are happening during the daytime and are happening in a very short span of time.

"People are gone for a couple hours and that is all the time it takes," Libertino said. "They run out to the food store or to the bank."

Libertino also said the burglars were not targeting electronics, but "untraceable" items like jewelry. Libertino also said that residents needed to be on the look out for anything suspicious and contact the police when they see something out of place.

"This isn't Mayberry anymore," Libertino said. "Residents need to make sure their doors and their windows are locked and their alarms are set. We need to make it harder for these guys."

This is an ongoing story and Patch will have details of the investigation and more information as it becomes available.
