Mendham Firefighters Honor Heros in Tunnel to Towers 5K

Volunteer firefighters completed course wearing full firefighting gear.

Two of Mendham Borough's firefighters showed their courage and honored those who were lost before them.

Luke Engelhardt and Sean Curtis took part in the Tunnel to Towers 5K honoring firefighters and police officers lost in the line of duty.

Engelhardt raised nearly $500 in less than a week leading up to the event, and both firefighters wore their full firefighting gear for the run, including boots, helmets, jackets and pants.

The Tunnel to Towers event was created in memory of Stephen Siller, a Brooklyn firefighter who died on Sept. 11, 2001 trying to rescue people inside the World Trade Center.

Information provided by Kate Engelhardt.
