Man Allegedly Stole $5K in Items From Mendham Home

Hopatcong resident spoke with neighbor just before burglary, prosecutor says.

A Hopatcong man has been accused of stealing $5,000 worth of items from a Mendham Township home earlier this month, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said Tuesday.

Anthony Troyano, 39, was arrested Nov. 16 for allegedly burglarizing a Roxiticus Road home four days earlier, Morris County Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi said.

Police responded to the home just after 3 p.m. on Nov. 12 and found a rear back kitchen window shattered, and several bedrooms ransacked, Bianchi said.

An investigation by Mendham Township Police revealed a male had knocked on a door of a neighboring Roxiticus Road home earlier that day and inquired if it was for sale, Bianchi said. The homeowner gave the male a brochure for the home, which was for sale, Bianchi said. The male then quickly departed, Bianchi said.

The joint investigation led to the arrest of Troyano, who has been charged with burglary and theft of movable property. He is being held on $75,000 bail with a 10-percent option.

“We continue to take the problem of residential burglaries very seriously. I have reallocated a significant amount of legal and investigative resources to follow an intelligence-led policing model and work directly with our municipal departments as well as the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Section to aggressively pursue burglary related investigations which remain our single most pressing priority,” Bianchi said.

"The Mendham Township Police Department and Chief Crawford have been key partners in our countywide crime plan and I thank them for their excellent police work.”

The investigation is still ongoing and it has not been determined of Troyano is connected to any other burglaries in the area, Bianchi said.

The Mendham Township Police Department was assisted by the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Section, Warrants, amd K-9 units, Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, Morris Township Police Department, Bedminster Township Police Departemnt and the New York Police Department.

Troyano was arrested in June for outstanding warrants and for allegedly having cocaine and drug paraphernalia following a motor vehicle stop in Hopatcong.
