Ladder Truck Receives 'Blessing' in Mendham Borough

New apparatus comes equipped with 105-foot steel ladder to help fight fires.

The Mendham Borough Fire Department is saying goodbye to 2013 with a hello to a new ladder fire truck, and has blessed the apparatus.

Former and incoming fire chiefs, along with Borough Adminstrator Ellen Sandman and Father Mike Drury were on hand recently to welcome the new truck to the borough’s department.

The ladder truck is 11-feet, 8-inches tall and 42-feet long. It holds 680 gallons of water and 20 gallons of class-A foam. The truck is a Pierce PUC 1,500 gallons-per-minute water pump with “husky” foam system.

The ladder stretches 105 feet and is made of steel. The truck is also equipped with a 10 kilowatt hydraulic generator and eight-person Velocity cab.

Incoming fire chief Chris Nelson and Sandman ceremoniously broke a bottle of champagne on the truck to welcome it to the fleet. The truck is now active and ready for use.
