Head On Collision in Mendham Injures Two

Mt. Olive man collides with Randolph woman during rush hour.

A head on collision on East Main Street in Mendham just before the 5 p.m. on April 11 injured two and slowed the evening commute to a crawl, Mendham Borough Police said.

A 1985 blue Toyota Celica, being operated by an 18-year-old Mount Olive man, was traveling east on East Main Street when the driver crossed the center line and struck a 2012 black Audi Q5, police said. According to authorities, the Audi was operated by a 61-year-old Randolph woman. Both vehicles sustained heavy front end damage in the head on collision and both drivers were transported to Morristown Memorial for treatment. 
The Mendham Borough Police Department, the Mendham Borough Fire Department, and the Mendham Borough First Aid Squad were dispatched to the crash, which was located near the intersection of Tempe Wick Road. 

The Mt. Olive man was extricated from the vehicle by the fire department using the Jaws of Life and is being treated for serious but non-life threatening but injuries. The Randolph woman was transported for injuries related to the deployment of airbags in a frontal collision.

Additional units responded from the Mendham Township Police, Morris County Park Police, and the Department of Interior Park Police to assist with traffic. 

The cause of the accident is still under investigation and charges are pending the outcome.

Police declined to release the names of the motorists until the investigation is complete.
