Hail To The New Chester Chief

Sgt. Dave Jara is sworn in at Tuesday's meeting of the Chester Borough mayor and council.

The safest place to be on Tuesday night was Chester Borough Hall as assembled members of law enforcement agencies from around Morris County packed the council chambers to witness the swearing in of Sgt. David Jara as Chester Borough's latest police chief.

Jara has been the officer in charge of the department since former Chief Andre Kedrowitsch retired in June 30. The selection process never went outside the department's personnel, Mayor Bob Davis said, as Jara and Sgt. Tim Carey were the only officers considered.

"You are an exceptional officer and it is our pleasure to name you chief," Davis said. "But we made it tough on you."

Interviews of both candidates, along with physical and psychological reviews took place throughout the summer, culminating in a decision in August. Davis said the selection was difficult but in the end, Jara edged out Carey.

"Congratulations on your promotion," Davis said. "I will say you earned it."

Jara thanked the law enforcement officers assembled, as well as the mayor and council, his colleagues, friends, family and especially his wife Rose (see the video attached to this post).

"I love you with all my heart," Jara said.
