Gas Leak Shuts Down North Road in Chester

Pair of homes evacuated after Chester Boro Public Works strikes gas line.

The tail end of the Monday morning commute hit a snag as the Chester Borough Department of Public works struck a gas line, prompting the temporary closure of North Road, Chester Township Police said.

According to Lt. Thomas Williver, the Chester Borough DPW was working on a project on the border of Chester Township and Chester Borough.

"It was technically Chester Township land but it is in the no-man's land on the border," Williver said.

According to Williver, the leak required the two homes closest to 50 North Road to be evacuated as a precaution, but as of 10 a.m. everything was back to status quo.

"The residents are back in their homes, the road is open and the gas main has been shut off," Williver said.
