Fatal Crash, Near Decapitation Tops Local News

A drug task force held a hearing, a motorcyclist nearly gets decapitated and more details are released in the death of two teenagers.

It was a tumultuous week in the area as we reported on a fatal motorcycle accident, a near fatal motorcycle accident and began our series on the NJ Drug Task Force hearings held in Mendham.

On Sunday night, a 60-year-old Toms River woman, riding as a motorcycle passenger, was thrown from the bike after it struck a Toyota Camry on Rt. 206 in Mt. Olive Township. The woman died as a result of the crash, and the motorcycle and car driver were taken to the hospital.

In a follow up to a tragic car crash that took the lives of two Mt. Olive teens in June, police said they believed in addition to speed, the inattention by use of cell phone also played a role in the accident. The investigation is ongoing, police said.

A 22-year-old Green Brook man escaped death, twice, in a matter of seconds when he dumped his motorcycle on Route 206 Tuesday, said. According to a witness, the motorcycle rider had to lay down his bike at the last second to avoid a crash. And act which police said most likely saved his life.
