Cigarette Glare Sparked Drunken Driver's Crash, Cops Say

Chester woman charged with DWI after allegedly striking parked car in Hackettstown.

Taking her eyes off the road for a moment to look at her cigarette was long enough for a Chester woman to strike a parked car on June 22 and end up with DWI charges, according to Hackettstown police.

Sascha Clark, 41, was charged with DWI, DWI in a school zone, having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle and reckless driving, Sgt. Darren Tynan said.

Clark was driving at the intersection of Route 46 and Center Street around 9:30 p.m. when Tynan said she looked down at her cigarette. When she looked back up, he said she had struck the car.

When officers arrived on the scene, they noticed Clark had a "shaker" filled with alcohol in her car, Tynan said. She also smelled of alcohol, he said.

Unable to perform field sobriety tests, Tynan said Clark was transported to the Hackettstown police station and later released with a date to appear in court.
