Chester Twp Still Looking For CERT Members

Volunteers would assist during natural disasters.

At the beginning of March, Chester Township appointed resident Bruce Ellmann to the position of office of emergency management coordinator. As one of his first acts, Ellmann is gauging residents interests in a Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT).

"The Chester Township Office of Emergency Management is currently compiling a list of residents who would be interested in participating in future CERT training," Ellmann said.

CERT team members can be utilized during emergencies in various capacities such as warming center operation, supply distribution/logisitics and assisting in other emergency operations as directed.

Recently, Chester Borough assembled their own team for such emergencies and Mendham Township already has some residents trained for action.

The training course is approximately 20 hours and training and equipment will be provided at no cost," Ellmann said.

According to Ellmann, the ongoing time commitment is small and no specialized skills are required, other than a willingness to help the community.

Those who are interested are encouraged to forward their contact information to Bruce Ellmann, Chester Township OEM Coordinator via e mail.
