Athena Causing Dangerous Travel Conditions

Police ask residents to stay off the roads as the winter storm blankets the area.

The first snowfall of the season, landing when the area is still recovering from Hurricane Sandy, has made for poor conditions on area roads, Chester Township Police said.

According to Lt. Tom Williver, the heavy snow and windy conditions are making it likely that more trees and limbs may fall.

"Please take precautions and avoid travel," Williver said.

Chester Township, the Morris County Road Department and New Jersey Department of Transportation have been called out to deal with the snow and ice conditions.

"The roads are very slippery use caution when driving," Williver said.
