Two people were arrested on Feb. 11 after 236 packets of heroin, small amount of greenish-brown vegetation suspected to be marijuana as well as other drug paraphernalia were found in a search of their vehicle, Chester Borough Police said.
According to Detective Kristin Cebo, Sgt. David Jara and Ptl. Shaun Horst were on duty at the courthouse for the evening court session Feb. 6 when they noticed a male attendee who appeared to be passing out and having a difficult time staying awake.
Jara and Horst questioned the individual who became evasive but eventually admitted to cosuming approximately six doses of heroin that day, Cebo said.
According to Cebo, consent to search the vehicle that transported him to court was denied by the owner of the vehicle and the Morris County K-9 unit was called in. Detective Jay DelTurco and his K-9 partner signaled that there were additional narcotics inside the vehicle and the vehicle was impounded, Cebo said.
On Feb. 8 municipal Court Judge, C. William Bowkley Jr, granted the search warrant and once executed, revealed the narcotics and drug paraphernalia, Cebo said.
On Feb. 11 both the defendant and the registered owner of the vehicle were both arrested and lodged in the Morris County Correctional Facility one on $35,000.00 and the other on $15,000.00, Cebo said.
The investigation of this incident is ongoing and the names of the accused are being withheld for investigative purposes, Cebo said.
