'Drive Sober' Campaign Yields 21 Arrests in Chester Twp.

Another 140 summons issued in two-week period, police report.

Chester Township police beefed up their patrol units for two weeks between August and September for the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign, and it paid dividends in a big way.

The campaign ran from Aug. 16 to Sept. 2, and included additional patrol units and checkpoints for sniffing out motorists who may be driving while intoxicated.

Township police made 21 arrests during the two weeks, and issued another 140 summonses.

According to the department, arrests were made for the following offenses:

  • Driving While Intoxicated: 6
  • Heroin possession: 1
  • Marijuana possession: 7
  • Schedule I-IV (prescription drugs): 1
  • Distribution of controlled dangerous substance: 1
  • Underage possession of alcohol: 1
  • Traffic/Criminal contempt: 3
  • Reckless Driving: 1

Some 411 vehicles were stopped during the two-week period as well. The following summons were issued for:

  • Reckless driving: 7
  • Speeding: 8
  • Suspended: 5
  • Seat belt: 2
  • Other: 118
