Vote for Rebecca Feldman for NJ Assembly

For far too long, residents of Morris County have been represented in Trenton by some of the state's most extreme voices, particularly Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll, arguably the single most extreme right-wing elected official in the state. Carroll has hung on for eighteen years because of a small, far-right faction of primary voters in the 25th Legislative District.

Recent events in Washington illustrate the danger of populating a legislative body with obstructionist, extremist ideologues like Carroll. It's high time we turned out in larger numbers on election day to send a moderate, reasonable representative to the New Jersey Assembly: independent Rebecca Feldman.

Make no mistake: Carroll is an extremist. He calls for citizens to arm themselves against the government. His inflammatory racial rhetoric is famous on the national stage, ever since he responded to a state initiative apologizing for New Jersey's role in slavery by saying, "If slavery was the price that a modern American's ancestors had to pay in order to make one an American, one should get down on one's knees every single day and thank the Lord that such price was paid." Carroll is opposed to any government spending that might enable upward mobility for those struggling to get by, and has called taxes a form of theft. Despite his supposedly libertarian leanings, he opposes same-sex marriage and abortion rights. The list goes on and on.

Rebecca Feldman will be a breath of fresh air for Morris County.   She advocates reducing the cost of government while building revenues. She's an unabashed advocate for women and was just endorsed by the national, non-partisan Women's' Campaign Fund.  Feldman recognizes the role a legislator can play in fostering upward mobility, helping seniors on a fixed income stay in their homes, and creating sound infrastructure for economic growth. As the only independent on the Morristown Council, Feldman has proven her ability to control spending and slash debt while growing the economy. This is exactly the kind of expertise we need in Trenton.

I hope my neighbors in the 25th will join me in voting for Rebecca Feldman on November 5.
