World War II Vet, Mendham Twp. Man Dies at 90

Louis Roseto met his wife of 65 years while on duty in the Philippines.

Service to country, service to family. That was what defined Louis Roseto.

The 90-year-old Mendham Township resident died Dec. 19 at his home surrounded by family, according to his obituary.

Roseto was born May 17, 1923 and served as a Marine in the Philippine Islands in World War II. There he met his future wife of 65 years, Benedetta Scarano, who predeceased him in 2011.

Roseto was a business owner for many years after his time in the military, but he served his family as a husband and father first and foremost. A man of honor, the obituary said, Roseto also had a quirky sense of humor and was loved by all who knew him.

Roseto is survived by four daughters, a son, and three siblings. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations can be made in Roseto’s name to the American Heart Association.
